MongoDB is developed by MongoDB Inc. formerly known as 10gen starts developing the MongoDB in 2007 as a part of planned platform as a service product. Later , in 2009,the company shifted to an open source development model, with the company offering commercial support and other services . MongoDB is published as free and open-source software under a combination of the GNU Affero General Public License and the Apache License. As of July 2015, MongoDB is the fourth most popular type of database management system, and the most popular for document stores.
